New findings have emerged in the investigation of the Bondi Beach attack in Sydney, revealing that the Indian-origin attackers, Sajid Akram and his son Naveed Akram, underwent tactical training within Australia prior to the incident.
According to documents submitted to the court by Australian authorities, both attackers received technical combat training locally and also visited Bondi Beach a day before carrying out the shooting. The documents further state that a video recovered from one of the attackers’ phones shows Sajid and Naveed Akram sitting in front of an ISIS flag. The video, recorded in October, also captures both individuals expressing strong anti-Jewish sentiments.
Media reports confirm that the injured suspect, Naveed Akram, has been transferred from the hospital to prison earlier today.
Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has urged the Parliament to fully support new laws aimed at countering extremist and hate-driven speech, emphasizing the need to prevent similar incidents in the future.
It is worth noting that last week’s attack at Bondi Beach targeted participants of a Jewish festival, resulting in the death of 15 people. The father, Sajid Akram, was killed at the scene, while his son, Naveed Akram, was wounded and taken into custody.
