Karachi: Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab has announced good news for citizens, stating that construction work on long-delayed roads and underpasses will be completed soon to improve travel facilities across the city.
Addressing a press conference, Murtaza Wahab said that he apologizes to citizens for past mistakes related to development projects. He added that as a nation, progress is not possible unless past errors are acknowledged and serious efforts are made to correct them.
The mayor announced the establishment of new parks, urban forests, and new graveyards in Karachi, saying that a total of Rs46 billion will be spent on the city this year to improve infrastructure and provide better civic amenities.
He said that development work at Empress Market has already begun, while work is also underway at Hassan Ali Hoti Market, where a food street is planned. According to him, Kidney Hill will be transformed into a major recreational spot within the next two months, while construction work on the Munawar Chowrangi underpass is also in progress and is expected to be completed by June 3.
Criticizing those spreading negative propaganda, Murtaza Wahab said that such criticism does not harm any individual but instead damages Karachi itself, and those involved are acting against the city’s interests.
The mayor said that it is painful when propaganda is carried out against the city, adding that some elements have adopted hostility toward Karachi for their own objectives, even though Karachi was, is, and will remain Pakistan’s game changer.
He said that the people of Karachi will continue to play their role in resolving Pakistan’s challenges. He also announced the formation of a new coordination company to address traffic-related issues, which he will personally head.
On the occasion, Murtaza Wahab also assured that issues related to the Red Line Corridor will be resolved between March and July to ensure smoother transportation for citizens.
