Speaking during a session of the National Assembly in Islamabad on the Gul Plaza tragedy, Pakistan Peoples Party MNA Shahla Raza said it is strange that a single incident is being used to drag discussions toward provinces, the 18th Amendment, and even basic education.
Shahla Raza stated that when a fire broke out in New Zealand, 40 people lost their lives, and similarly, fires occurred three times at Hafeez Center in Lahore, yet no political point-scoring was done over those incidents. She remarked that fires do occur and such incidents can happen.
She said it is surprising that one incident is being used as a basis to question provincial autonomy, the 18th Amendment, and fundamental education, stressing that every issue should be viewed within its proper context.
Shahla Raza further said that Sindh has a history spanning thousands of years and is the only province that has always welcomed migrants with open arms. She added that Sindh is a land of ancient civilization that should be viewed from a pre-Christian era perspective.
