It has been revealed that gold and silver worth billions of rupees, confiscated by various Pakistan Customs collectorates, were not deposited in the State Bank of Pakistan.
The disclosure has raised concerns within relevant authorities, as the precious metals reportedly remained in collectorate lockers for years instead of being transferred to central reserves.
According to sources, all enforcement units of FBR Customs, including airport collectorates, have been directed to submit complete data regarding the confiscated gold and silver in their possession to assess the actual situation. Authorities have sought detailed reports to determine the extent of the issue.
Sources stated that the seized gold and silver had been lying in collectorate lockers for an extended period and, due to not being deposited in the State Bank’s reserves, were not reflected in the national treasury’s official records. The situation is being described as a result of administrative negligence.
It has also been reported that due to alleged incompetence within certain customs collectorates, there are concerns regarding possible replacement or theft of the confiscated gold and silver stored in lockers, prompting the possibility of further investigations.
