The reason behind Aleem Dar’s resignation from the national selection committee has come to light following Pakistan’s disappointing performance and exit from the ICC T20 World Cup Super Four stage. Sources indicate that Dar stepped down due to alleged interference in selection matters and internal disagreements.
According to close sources, Aleem Dar, one of the ICC’s elite umpires, was unhappy with what he considered excessive interference by head coach Michael Hesson and the silence of influential committee member Aaqib Javed. He reportedly believed that while selectors announce the best 20 players, final decisions regarding the 15 member squad and playing eleven are made by the captain and coach, leaving selectors to face criticism.
During the T20 World Cup, Dar is said to have raised concerns over the inclusion of former captain Babar Azam and all rounder Shadab Khan without notable performances. He maintained that selection criteria should be applied consistently to all players.
In this context, Dar also proposed that experienced wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan be played at number six instead of Usman Khan. He argued that if certain players could be included without recent performances, Rizwan deserved another opportunity as well. However, sources claim that his suggestions were overlooked and the coach’s stance prevailed.
Under the current circumstances, Aleem Dar has reportedly taken a principled decision to resign. According to those close to him, he believes that cricket has given him great respect and that he does not wish to serve in a symbolic capacity, making resignation the more appropriate course of action.
