The United States has announced the deployment of an additional 5,000 troops to the Middle East amid rising tensions in the region, aiming to strengthen its military presence.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the US Department of Defense has decided to send thousands of US Marines to the Middle East.
The report stated that the deployment is being carried out following a request from the US Central Command to enhance military readiness in the region.
The newspaper reported that the decision was made due to escalating tensions in the Middle East, prompting the United States to increase its military presence in the area.
The request comes at a time when Iran is reportedly carrying out attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and laying naval mines in the region.
According to the report, along with 5,000 Marines and Navy personnel, several warships may also be deployed in the area.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered a vital route for global oil shipments, and any disruption in the strait has already contributed to rising oil and gas prices worldwide.
Earlier, Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei stated in a written message that Iran would keep the Strait of Hormuz closed to use it as a strategic tool to exert pressure on its adversaries.
