Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure the supply of food items required by Gulf countries while also supporting their food security needs.
A meeting chaired by the Prime Minister was held in Lahore to review the country’s food situation and export potential in light of the evolving regional circumstances. Officials briefed the Prime Minister on the current stock of food items and agricultural production in the country.
The briefing highlighted that Pakistan currently has sufficient food reserves and there is no shortage of essential commodities. Officials also informed that Pakistan possesses strong export potential in agricultural products, meat, poultry, dairy items, and seafood.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed authorities to closely monitor the demand and supply of food items within the country to ensure domestic needs are fully met.
He noted that disruptions in global supply chains have created new opportunities for Pakistani exports in the region. The Prime Minister emphasized prioritizing the supply of food products to Gulf countries and supporting their food security.
He further directed that a comprehensive export strategy be developed to increase the supply of food items to Gulf nations while ensuring that all exported products meet high quality standards.
The Prime Minister also instructed the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation to take necessary steps to facilitate the export of food products to Gulf countries.
Additionally, he directed the formation of a special committee that will monitor the situation on a daily basis. Pakistani ambassadors and trade officers in Gulf countries were also asked to remain proactive in promoting exports.
