Karachi: The judicial commission formed to investigate the Gul Plaza incident has taken a key step by issuing a notice to the Director General of the Sindh Building Control Authority, seeking clarification on regulatory compliance.
The commission has asked SBCA to provide a detailed legal explanation regarding the implementation of building and town planning regulations in Karachi to determine responsibility.
The investigative body questioned which authority is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations in buildings like Gul Plaza and what roles various institutions play in this regard.
It further inquired about SBCA’s role in enforcing and monitoring the Karachi Building and Town Planning Regulations and the extent of its responsibility.
The commission directed that clarification be provided in light of the Sindh Building Control Ordinance 1979 and other relevant laws to establish the facts.
All responses and documents have been ordered to be submitted to the commission secretariat by April 1.
