Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has assured full support to transporters, stating that the provincial government is fully aware of the challenges faced by the sector and is taking steps to address them.
A telephonic conversation took place between Sharjeel Memon and Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shahzad Awan, during which issues arising after the increase in petroleum prices were discussed in detail.
Memon said that the rise in petroleum prices is a national-level issue affecting all sectors, but the Sindh government is seriously considering practical proposals to provide relief to transporters.
He emphasized that the transport sector is the backbone of the national economy and its challenges cannot be ignored, adding that a joint strategy is being developed to resolve these issues.
The senior minister stated that consultations will be held with relevant authorities regarding possible relief in toll taxes and other provincial taxes to ease the burden on transporters.
Meanwhile, Malik Shahzad Awan said that requests have been made to both provincial and federal governments for relief in toll taxes and other levies, as rising fuel prices have made it difficult to operate transport services.
He added that a course of action will be announced after a coordination committee meeting scheduled at 3 PM today.
