Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting to review reform measures aimed at improving the performance of the National Tariff Commission, with discussions focusing on restructuring the institution and boosting investment and industrial growth.
The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, and Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar Khan.
Addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister directed that legal and administrative complexities within the commission be resolved through a comprehensive strategy and that its operations be digitalized to ensure transparency and efficiency.
He further instructed that special measures be taken to facilitate investors and industrialists and that international best practices be adopted to bring the commission’s performance in line with global standards.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the use of IT, AI, and other modern technologies to introduce innovation and called for simplifying legal processes in the appellate tribunal to enhance efficiency.
He also stressed the importance of workforce training according to international standards, timely disposal of cases, and seeking guidance from experts.
The Prime Minister made it clear that delays in case handling would not be tolerated and directed the development of a system to ensure all cases are resolved within a specified timeframe.
Officials informed the meeting that institutional, legal, and administrative restructuring of the National Tariff Commission is already underway to improve its effectiveness.
