After previously threatening to eliminate Iran’s civilization overnight, the US President has announced the suspension of bombing operations against Iran for two weeks, just about an hour and a half before the expiration of the set deadline, marking a significant diplomatic development.
In a statement shared on social media, the US President said that he has agreed to suspend attacks on Iran for two weeks, describing it as a bilateral ceasefire, on the condition that Iran agrees to fully, immediately, and safely reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
President Trump further stated that he held discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, and agreed to suspend the attacks on Iran following a request from the Pakistani leadership. He noted that this provides a workable foundation for further negotiations.
According to the US President, the United States has already achieved all its military objectives and even exceeded them, and is now close to a final agreement regarding peace in the Middle East. He also revealed that a 10-point proposal has been received from Iran, which is being considered a viable basis for negotiations.
It is worth noting that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had requested US President Donald Trump for a two-week extension in the deadline and had also appealed to Iran, as a gesture of goodwill, to keep the Strait of Hormuz open for two weeks.
