Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that if the level of coordination seen today between Rawalpindi and Islamabad had existed over the past 75 years, Pakistan would have achieved many major milestones much earlier.
Speaking in the National Assembly, Asif said Pakistan had fought an important battle a year ago in which the armed forces made the nation proud.
He added that the country is also engaged in an economic struggle and that success requires national unity and collective effort.
According to the defence minister, the fight against terrorism is not only the responsibility of security institutions but a shared responsibility of all 250 million Pakistanis.
Asif thanked the US leadership and said he had never witnessed Pakistan receiving such international recognition and respect over the last 75 years.
He stressed that the country should learn from its diplomatic successes while continuing efforts to address economic challenges.
Referring to Iran, he said the US leadership had acknowledged decades of injustices faced by the country.
The minister also urged Gulf nations to resolve their differences so they could play a stronger role in supporting the people of Gaza and Palestine.
He praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir for their handling of recent regional developments.
Asif said the efforts made over the past three years were beginning to bear fruit and that continued unity could help resolve broader regional issues, including the Palestinian conflict.
