Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Pakistan will host the formal signing ceremony of the Iran-US peace agreement in Geneva on June 19.
Addressing the National Assembly, the prime minister said that after a prolonged period of conflict, a new era of peace had emerged and that Pakistan’s role in facilitating the process would be remembered in history.
According to Sharif, Iran and the United States have agreed to halt military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon, on an immediate and permanent basis.
He described the agreement as a victory for diplomacy, dialogue and wisdom, and congratulated both the Pakistani nation and the international community.
The prime minister thanked political leaders across Pakistan for supporting efforts that contributed to the diplomatic breakthrough.
He also congratulated US President Donald Trump, Iran’s leadership and all parties involved for demonstrating patience and statesmanship during a difficult period.
Sharif praised the contributions of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and China in advancing the peace process.
Praise for Asim Munir and Ishaq Dar
The prime minister highlighted the role of Asim Munir, saying he worked tirelessly to help prevent further escalation and promote peace.
He also commended Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for his efforts in supporting the negotiations.
Economic Benefits Expected
Sharif noted that the conflict had affected global markets as well as Pakistan’s economy, but said the government would work to ensure that the economic benefits of peace reach ordinary citizens.
He pledged that both federal and provincial governments would continue working until the positive outcomes of the agreement are translated into relief for the public.
