Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to announce a reduction in petroleum product prices today, providing potential relief to consumers.
According to reports, international oil prices declined following easing tensions and ceasefire developments involving Iran and the United States, creating room for lower domestic fuel prices.
Earlier, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik stated that the government intends to pass the benefits of lower global oil prices directly to the public.
He said the Prime Minister has directed authorities to ensure that any decline in international oil prices is reflected in local fuel prices as quickly as possible.
The minister also announced the formation of a high-level committee to develop a transparent weekly pricing mechanism for petroleum products.
According to Malik, the new system will help consumers better understand the reasons behind fuel price increases or decreases and will be prepared in consultation with all relevant stakeholders.
He added that Pakistan successfully maintained uninterrupted fuel supplies despite regional tensions and is reviewing its broader energy security framework.
The government says additional measures are being considered to strengthen energy security and protect national interests.
