The government has decided to fully digitize Pakistan’s passport system and has also completed preparations for a home delivery service for passports.
The decision was made during a special meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the Passport and Immigration Headquarters.
Officials agreed in principle to transition passport issuance entirely to e-passports, a move aimed at reducing fraud and forgery risks.
Mohsin Naqvi stated that the use of modern technology will improve transparency, security and public convenience.
The meeting also decided that citizens opting for premium passport services will be charged according to the actual cost of processing.
Authorities said preliminary arrangements for domestic and international passport home delivery services have been completed, and the facility is expected to be launched soon.
A cashless payment system will also be introduced in passport offices across the country from July 1.
In addition, online passport applications will be shifted to the “Pak ID” platform to simplify and streamline the application process.
The Interior Minister directed officials to finalize the business passport policy in consultation with the Federal Board of Revenue.
During the meeting, Director General Passports and Immigration Muhammad Ali Randhawa briefed participants on ongoing reforms and future initiatives.
