Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that the memorandum of understanding was signed to assess the United States’ commitment to respecting Iran’s rights.
In a statement posted on social media, Pezeshkian said members of Iran’s parliament supported the text after lengthy and detailed negotiations.
He described the memorandum as the result of months of diplomatic discussions and an important step toward ending hostilities and beginning formal negotiations.
According to the Iranian president, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei played a significant role in ensuring provisions necessary to protect Iran’s national interests were included in the document.
Pezeshkian said the agreement would serve as a test of Washington’s willingness to honor its commitments and respect Iranian rights.
He added that Iran remains prepared for all possible scenarios and would continue safeguarding its national interests.
The Iranian president stated that if all provisions of the memorandum are fully implemented, it could become a document of pride for Iran.
Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance confirmed that both countries had signed the memorandum.
According to US officials, the document was signed by President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance on behalf of the United States, while Iran was represented by parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
