Ankara: Recep Tayyip Erdogan has once again emerged victorious in the Turkish presidential elections. According to Turkish media, President Erdogan has secured victory for the second consecutive time in the presidential election. Recep Tayyip Erdogan obtained 52.1% of the votes, while the opposition candidate, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, received 47.7% of the votes, securing the second position.
Final stage of polling for the presidential elections in Turkey concluded according to local time, running from 8 am to 5 pm. The voter turnout in the presidential election remained above 85 percent. It is worth noting that in the presidential election held on May 14 in Turkey, the voter turnout was 90 percent. However, due to no candidate receiving 50 percent of the votes, a decision on the presidency was not made.
In the first stage, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had a 5-point lead over his opposing candidate but failed to secure 50 percent of the votes. He was successful in obtaining 49.52 percent of the votes in the first stage.
It is evident that elections are held every five years in Turkey. According to the law, if a candidate obtains 50 percent of the votes with a lead, they become the elected president. However, in case no candidate receives 50 percent of the votes, a second round of voting takes place between the top two candidates with the highest number of votes.
