Washington: U.S. officials have confirmed that similar to other countries, American aid to Pakistan has been temporarily suspended, resulting in the halting of several key development projects.
In recent days, the U.S. State Department instructed all diplomatic and consular missions to immediately suspend foreign aid programs. This measure initially planned for 90 days, also affects aid to Ukraine, Taiwan, Jordan, and other nations.
According to U.S. officials, all aid programs for Pakistan have been paused until a comprehensive review of the assistance is conducted. This decision has impacted several sectors.
Under the directive, the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation has been suspended, along with five major energy sector projects.
The U.S. State Department’s guidelines indicate that four economic growth programs in Pakistan have been affected, and funding for five agricultural development projects has been stopped.
Additionally, aid for democracy, human rights, and governance-related programs has also been temporarily suspended. Four education projects and four health projects have been halted, while 11 governance-related initiatives have been affected by this U.S. action.
U.S. officials have stated that the decision is temporary, and the future of all aid programs will be decided after a thorough review.
