Dubai: American citizen Oneja Andrew Robinson, who came to Pakistan for love, has been taken into protective custody in Dubai.
According to details, Oneja had arrived in Pakistan to meet a Pakistani man and stayed in Karachi for nearly four months. She recently departed from Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, intending to return to the U.S. via Dubai. However, instead of continuing her journey home, she chose to remain in Dubai, where several of her videos went viral on social media.
Reports state that Oneja landed in Dubai on February 7 via Emirates flight EK603 from Karachi. She was scheduled to fly to New York on Emirates flight EK203 but skipped the flight. As a U.S. citizen, she entered Dubai on an on-arrival visa and was later placed under protective custody.
Her family in New York was waiting for her arrival, but when she did not reach home, U.S. authorities began searching for her. Viral videos of her wandering on Dubai’s streets alerted American officials, prompting them to contact Emirati authorities, who subsequently restricted her movement and detained her.
Sources indicate that deporting Oneja back to the U.S. has become a challenge. Since she has not violated any laws and is on a legal visit visa, she cannot be forcibly removed. Additionally, airlines and pilots are reportedly reluctant to accommodate her on a 15-hour flight due to security concerns regarding her abnormal behavior.
