Dubai: For the ICC Champions Trophy, the Indian team unveiled its jersey in a ceremony. The Indian board inscribed “Pakistan” on the jersey, which has sparked outrage among extremist Hindus.
During the jersey unveiling, Indian cricketers including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh took their photos in the new vibrant jersey.
Fans were more focused on whether the jersey bore the inscription “Pakistan” than on the jersey itself. The Indian board had previously made a failed attempt through its media to claim that the host nation’s name would not be inscribed.
In recent days, India attempted to create a controversy regarding the placement of the ICC Champions Trophy-approved logo on the shirt. In response, the ICC took a two-pronged stance, stating that it is mandatory for all teams in the Champions Trophy to have the ICC-approved logo on their kits. Indian media claimed that the name “Pakistan” would not be inscribed on the Indian team’s kit.
However, the Secretary of the Indian Cricket Board later confirmed that the Indian team would adhere to ICC rules and that the jersey would feature the name of the Champions Trophy host nation.
On Monday, when the ICC shared images of the Indian players who had received the ICC Awards and Team of the Year caps ahead of Champions Trophy 2025, the players were seen in the new jersey featuring the Champions Trophy logo and the host nation “Pakistan”.
