Virat Kohli has broken a 25-year-old record for the most catches in One Day cricket for India.
In the previous match against Pakistan, he achieved this feat by taking Naseem Shah’s catch off Kuldeep Yadav’s delivery in the 47th over.
This was Virat Kohli’s 157th catch in One Day cricket; before him, India’s former captain Mohammad Azharuddin had taken 156 catches in One Day cricket until his retirement in 2000.
Thus, by taking his 157th catch, Virat Kohli broke Mohammad Azharuddin’s 25-year-old record. Yesterday, against Pakistan, he also took a catch of Khushdil Shah, which increased his total to 158 catches in 299 matches.
Kohli has now become the fielder with the most catches for India; the world record for the most catches in One Day cricket belongs to Mahela Jayawardene, who has taken 218 catches.
