A Pakistani woman who has been living in India for 35 years has been ordered to leave the country immediately.
NDTV, citing government officials, confirmed that Sarada Bai, residing in Odisha, has had her visa revoked and has been directed to return to Pakistan without delay.
Police have warned the woman that legal action will be taken against her if she does not comply with the order.
This move is part of the campaign launched against Pakistan following the Pahalgam incident.
Sarada Bai was married into a Hindu family in Bolangir to Mahesh Kokaraja, and they have a son and a daughter, both of whom are Indian citizens.
The woman had completed all necessary paperwork for acquiring citizenship, including obtaining a voter ID, but she was not granted citizenship by the government.
Sarada Bai has appealed to the government not to separate her from her family.
She pleaded with folded hands to be allowed to stay in India, where she has spent three and a half decades and considers it her home.
She stated, “I have no one in Pakistan, and my passport is very old. I beg the authorities to let me stay.”
According to her, “I have two grown children and grandchildren. I want to live here like an Indian.”
Her appeal has moved some government officials; however, police have stated that if the woman does not leave, action will be taken according to the law.
It is worth noting that since the Pahalgam incident in Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22, tensions between neighboring countries have escalated. India has accused Pakistan of involvement, while Pakistan has responded with counter-accusations.
The day after the incident, India took several non-military measures, including the indefinite suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, closure of the Attari border, and cancellation of all visas issued to Pakistanis present in India.
