The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that the ongoing heatwave will persist in the country’s plains today, while some regions may experience rainfall during the evening or night.
According to the Met Office, temperatures in Sindh, South Punjab, and Balochistan are expected to remain 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal, while in the northern areas, the temperature could rise 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal, causing intense heat conditions for residents.
Rainfall is expected in parts of Balochistan, Kashmir, and nearby mountainous areas, which may bring slight relief from the heat.
Extreme temperatures continue to dominate major cities. Today, temperatures are expected to reach 52°C in Sibi, 51°C in Dadu and Dera Ghazi Khan, 50°C in Bahawalpur, 49°C in Sukkur, and 48°C in both Multan and Sargodha. In Nawabshah, Peshawar, and Dera Ismail Khan, the mercury may also hit 48°C.
Additionally, Bannu, Sahiwal, and Nokundi may see 47°C, Turbat 46°C, Faisalabad and Lahore 45°C, Hyderabad 44°C, Rawalpindi 43°C, Islamabad 42°C, Quetta 41°C, while Karachi is expected to remain relatively cooler at 36°C.
The Meteorological Department has advised the public to avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight, increase water intake, and adopt proper precautions to protect themselves from the extreme heat.
