Due to monsoon rains, a medium-level flood has developed at Taunsa Barrage and low-level floods at Guddu and Sukkur Barrages in the Indus River. PDMA has issued a flood alert. In Kashmore, rising water levels at Guddu Barrage have led the Irrigation Department to declare a medium-level flood.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division, the inflow and outflow at Taunsa Barrage is 426,000 cusecs. The water level at Tarbela Dam has reached 1,527 feet, and at Mangla Dam, 1,184 feet. The PDMA Punjab spokesperson stated that the flood situation at Taunsa Barrage is of medium intensity and the water level continues to rise. As per the control room, inflow at Guddu Barrage is recorded at 355,283 cusecs, and outflow at 315,558 cusecs.
In the last 24 hours, the water level has increased by 13,190 cusecs, and it is expected to rise further in the next 24 to 48 hours. The water level is continuously rising at Rajanpur, Ghotki, and Taunsa in the Indus River. Several settlements in Taunsa have been submerged, while residents in Rajanpur’s riverine areas have begun relocating to safer places.
Sources in the Irrigation Department indicated that a further rise in water levels is expected due to ongoing monsoon rains. According to the PDMA spokesperson, the flow at Taunsa Barrage is 426,400 cusecs, and the flood situation at Guddu and Sukkur Barrages is at a low level. PDMA has instructed Rescue 1122 to complete all preparations in advance.
Water supply to the link canals from Taunsa Barrage has been stopped. Water levels have risen across the country, including the Koh-e-Suleman range, due to monsoon rains. PDMA has issued alerts to local government, agriculture, irrigation, health, forest, livestock, and transport departments. DG PDMA stated that, because of the Punjab Chief Minister’s instructions, all arrangements must be completed in advance.
Relevant departments have been directed to remain alert and ensure safety measures. The district administration has advised citizens, especially those living along riverbanks, to take precautions and move to safer locations. Meanwhile, rainfall continues in various cities, including Lahore, Okara, Bahawalnagar, Minchinabad, and Renala Khurd, causing low-lying areas to flood. The Meteorological Department has forecast rain in Islamabad, Sindh, KP, and Balochistan, with some rain expected in parts of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan as well.
