According to the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the country’s weekly inflation rate recorded a slight increase of 0.05%, while the annual inflation rate has reached 1.73%.
The report states that during the past week, prices of 12 essential items increased, 12 items became cheaper, and 27 items remained stable. PBS noted that sugar is being sold for up to Rs173 per kilogram in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore.
Among the items that became more expensive, onions saw the highest increase at 16.53%, followed by tomatoes at 10.17% and chicken at 4.12%. Prices of eggs, red lentils, tea, fresh milk, diesel, cigarettes, and firewood also increased.
Items that recorded a price decrease include bananas, mung lentils, mash lentils, potatoes, sugar, garlic, rice, wheat flour, LPG, and petrol.
