Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while addressing overseas Pakistanis in London, stated that without resolving the Kashmir dispute, true relations between Pakistan and India cannot be established. He recalled that the two neighbors have already fought four wars, costing billions of dollars, which should have been spent on the development and prosperity of their people.
The Prime Minister stressed that Pakistan and India are bound to live side by side as neighbors, and Pakistan seeks dialogue with India based on equality. He firmly asserted that the sacrifices of the Kashmiri people will not go in vain.
According to the official statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will depart from London for the United States today and is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly on September 26. During the visit, he is also expected to meet the U.S. President in Washington.
The Foreign Office statement said the Prime Minister will draw global attention to India’s prolonged occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and the denial of the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people. It further added that he will join other Muslim leaders in a meeting with President Trump and participate in several important sideline sessions.
The statement also highlighted that the Prime Minister will address regional security concerns and the worsening situation in Gaza. From September 22 onward, he will lead the Pakistani delegation to the UNGA, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, cabinet ministers, and senior officials.
The purpose of the Prime Minister’s visit to New York is to press the international community for a resolution of the Kashmir issue and ensure the protection of the fundamental rights of the people of Pakistan.
