The dengue situation in Sindh has taken a troubling turn, as four more people lost their lives to the virus in the past 24 hours. According to the Sindh Health Department, the total number of deaths caused by dengue this year has risen to 25, highlighting the growing severity of the outbreak.
The department reported that 1,192 new cases were confirmed across the province during the last 24 hours. Out of these, 642 cases were reported in Karachi and 550 in Hyderabad, indicating a rapid spike in both major cities.
Further data showed that the total number of dengue cases reported in Sindh this year has climbed to 10,502. Currently, 227 patients are under treatment in government hospitals, while 212 are admitted in private hospitals. In Karachi, 257 beds have been reserved for dengue patients in government hospitals, while 195 beds have been allocated in private hospitals to manage the increasing patient load.
According to the Sindh Health Department, 37 laboratories in Karachi are providing dengue testing facilities, including 12 government and 25 private labs. In Hyderabad, 18 laboratories are conducting dengue tests, comprising 7 government and 11 private facilities.
During the past 24 hours, those who died from dengue included three children and one woman. The deceased included a 3-year-old girl in Hyderabad, a 6-year-old boy in Badin, and in Karachi, an 11-year-old boy and a 30-year-old woman succumbed to the virus, adding to the distress across the province.
