Pakistan’s first Federal Constitutional Court has formally begun hearing cases. According to media reports, the court’s bench commenced proceedings in Courtroom No. 2 of the Islamabad High Court, where a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Aminuddin is hearing constitutional matters. The bench also includes Justice Ali Baqar Najafi and Justice Arshad Hussain Shah.
It was reported that Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan has constituted three separate benches for the hearing of different cases. Bench No. 1 comprises Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, and Justice Arshad Hussain Shah. Bench No. 2 includes Justice Hasan Rizvi and Justice K.K. Agha, while Bench No. 3 consists of Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Rozi Khan.
Furthermore, two additional judges of the Federal Constitutional Court have taken their oath following the recently enacted 27th Constitutional Amendment, raising the total number of judges to seven. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Islamabad High Court, where Justice Rozi Khan and Justice Arshad Hussain Shah took oath as judges of the Federal Constitutional Court. Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan administered the oath in the High Court’s conference room.
Reports indicate that the ceremony was attended by Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, Justice Muhammad Azam Khan, Justice Muhammad Asif, and Justice Inaam Amin Minhas, along with bar representatives and lawyers. Earlier, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Aamir Farooq, Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, and Justice Kareem Khan Agha had already taken oath as judges of the Federal Constitutional Court. Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan was the first to take his oath at the Aiwan-e-Sadr before administering the oath to the remaining judges.
