Islamabad: Following the controversial 27th Constitutional Amendment that grants the Judicial Commission of Pakistan authority to transfer High Court judges between provinces without their consent, reports have emerged that at least four High Court judges are seriously considering submitting their resignations.
According to sources, the judges recently contacted their respective High Court accounts departments and requested comprehensive details regarding post-retirement benefits. The information sought verbally includes pension entitlements, expected dates of benefit release, accumulated leave balance, and the current assessed value of official vehicles in their use, should they choose to purchase them.
Sources further revealed that this development has sparked intense discussion within judicial circles, with claims that these four judges—allegedly among those who may be placed on a transfer list after the 27th Amendment—are contemplating resignation rather than accepting an appointment in another province or region. Two of these judges are expected to become eligible for a pension at any time next month, which will create further uncertainty around their potential decisions.
