Four people, including the Assistant Commissioner of North Waziristan and two police personnel, were martyred after unidentified gunmen opened fire on their official vehicle in Bannu on Monday.
According to police officials, the incident occurred on Miranshah Road near the flour mills area, where armed attackers suddenly targeted the Assistant Commissioner’s vehicle. The deadly burst of gunfire killed the Assistant Commissioner and two accompanying police officials on the spot. Initial reports confirmed that a fourth individual also lost his life in the attack.
Police said the assailants not only ambushed the vehicle but also snatched weapons from the injured officers before setting the vehicle ablaze. As soon as the incident was reported, a heavy police contingent reached the area, cordoned it off, collected forensic evidence, and moved the bodies and injured to the nearby hospital.
Authorities noted that the attackers managed to escape after the assault, triggering a widespread search operation in the surrounding areas.
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Strongly Condemns the Attack
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, condemned the terrorist attack in strong words and expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of the Assistant Commissioner and police officials. He directed the Inspector General of Police to submit a comprehensive report on the incident without delay.
In his statement, the Chief Minister said the attack was a tragic and heartbreaking act of terrorism. He added that such cowardly acts by anti-state elements would not weaken the resolve of the government or security agencies. He reaffirmed that the sacrifices of the martyrs would never be forgotten and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
The Chief Minister also instructed authorities to ensure immediate and top-quality medical treatment for the injured. He emphasized that the fight against terrorism would continue with even greater determination and strength.
