Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar received a telephone call from Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdulsalam Abdi Ali, during which bilateral matters and the regional situation were discussed.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the Somali foreign minister requested Pakistan’s cooperation in addressing Somalia’s concerns at the United Nations Security Council, to which Pakistan assured its full support.
During the conversation, Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stating that Pakistan would continue to stand by Somalia’s legitimate position.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said that Pakistan has also assured Somalia of its full backing at the United Nations and other multilateral forums.
Somali Foreign Minister Abdulsalam Abdi Ali expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its continued support, describing it as a reflection of the close relations between the two countries.
It is worth noting that an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council has been convened following Israel’s move to recognize Somalia’s region of Somaliland as an independent state.
According to Arab media, the emergency Security Council meeting will be held on Monday at Somalia’s request.
