Pakistan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the global financial institution World Liberty Financial to promote innovation in digital payments and modernize the country’s financial system. The signing ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif along with senior civil and military leadership, highlighting the strategic importance of the agreement.
The MoU signing ceremony, aimed at strengthening cooperation in the digital payments sector, was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the Chairman of the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority, and other senior government officials.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also held a meeting with a delegation from World Liberty Financial USA, led by Chief Executive Officer Zachary Witkoff. During the meeting, the prime minister briefed the delegation on Pakistan’s Digital Pakistan vision and emphasized that digital connectivity, transparency, and public accessibility remain key priorities of the government.
He stated that digital payments and financial innovation are essential components of Pakistan’s evolving digital economy, adding that growing global interest in Pakistan’s digital financial markets is a positive sign. The Prime Minister noted that Pakistan is rapidly integrating into the global digital finance ecosystem.
Meanwhile, World Liberty Financial CEO Zachary Witkoff expressed a strong interest in working with Pakistan to develop a secure and transparent digital payments infrastructure. He said the collaboration could include innovation in cross-border payments, settlement systems, and foreign exchange transactions, paving the way for enhanced financial cooperation between Pakistan and global markets.
