Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has said that the process of legislation on the matter of the Supreme Court’s suo motu notices is ongoing. According to the constitution, there should be a uniform procedure for general elections, and general elections should be held simultaneously throughout the country.
In an interview with international media in Islamabad, the federal law minister said that if the governor of Punjab did not sign the sent summary, then the Punjab Assembly automatically dissolved at the appointed time in accordance with the constitution. Now the process of legislation on the matter of the Supreme Court’s suo motu notices is underway. Both judges have expressed their opinion on the matter of suo motu notices and have opted for separation from the bench.
He said that Justice Qazi Faiz Isa’s clear court order on Article 184 (3) of the Constitution is also in the matter of elections. When the decision came on March 1, we were of the opinion that the case was rejected by a 4 to 3 majority, four judges dismissed the petitions, and two refused to hear the case, but the court did not make any political party a party to the case.
Granting full authority to the Election Commission, the law minister said that if the court did not form, there would be severe political and constitutional crises in the country. Senior judges are being kept away from the bench.
He said that the federal cabinet had expressed reservations about the Supreme Court’s decision, and the cabinet’s view was that the majority decision should not be changed by a minority. It would have been better if the Supreme Court had made a decision on this important matter.
On May 14, the Chief Justice who ordered the elections in Punjab will preside over a three-member bench of the Supreme Court.
