The Supreme Court has accepted the Ministry of Defence’s request to hold all assembly elections in the country simultaneously.A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, including Justice Ejaz ul Hassan and Justice Munib Akhtar, will hear the plea today.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Defence had requested the Supreme Court to issue directions to hold national and provincial assembly elections simultaneously after the completion of the term of the National Assembly, Sindh, and Balochistan assemblies.
This request was made through a report, which was submitted to the Election Commission after the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and other institutions were directed to implement the report’s instructions of allocating PKR 21 billion for conducting elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The request stated that “special time is required to prepare members of the armed forces for election duty, as a large part of the force has been engaged in operations for a considerable period.”
