Islamabad: Anti-Terrorism Court Grants Bail to PTI Founder’s Sisters, Orders Release
In a hearing at the Anti-Terrorism Court, bail applications for Aliema Khan and Azmi Khan, sisters of the PTI founder, were approved. Judge Abul Hasanat Muhammad Zulqarnain presided over the hearing, where defense attorneys Sardar Masroof Advocate and Mirza Asim Baig presented their arguments. The judge granted bail for both sisters at a bond of 20,000 rupees each.
Previously, on October 24, a special court judge in Islamabad had issued release orders for former First Lady and PTI founder Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana case, allowing her to leave Adiala Jail and reach Peshawar.
It is noteworthy that the decision on Aliema Khan and Azmi Khan’s bail applications was not made on October 22. Earlier, on October 19, the Anti-Terrorism Court had postponed the hearing of their bail requests until October 22. Administrative Judge Raja Jawad Abbas Hassan had remarked that he was not the duty judge for the court and could not decide on bail.
On October 12, the Anti-Terrorism Court rejected the request for further physical remand of PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sisters, Aliema Khan and Azmi Khan, in the D-Chowk protest case, sending them to judicial remand instead.
Aliema Khan and Azmi Khan are facing charges under anti-terrorism laws at Kohsar Police Station. Following a planned protest by PTI in the D-Chowk area of Islamabad on October 4, all routes to the federal capital were blocked with containers, leading to the arrest of 30 individuals, including the founder chairman’s sisters.
On October 8 and October 10, further two-day physical remands for Aliema Khan and Azmi Khan were approved. However, on October 12, the court denied the request for additional physical remand in the D-Chowk protest case and sent them to judicial remand.
