Former Pakistan Cricket Team Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed Ends 9-Year Journey with Quetta Gladiators in Pakistan Super League.
Sarfaraz Ahmed announced the end of his 9-year-long journey with Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Quetta Gladiators through a post on the social media platform Instagram.
While thanking the franchise owner Nadeem Omar, Sarfaraz stated, “I want to let you know today that my time with Quetta Gladiators has come to an end.” He expressed immense pride in his 9-year journey with the amazing team, describing it as beautiful and memorable.
In his post, Sarfaraz also shared a photo with team owner Nadeem Omar, expressing his gratitude for being allowed to play for the team and for the support he received as a player and captain.
Sarfaraz wrote that he would always remember the support he received throughout the journey. “My best wishes will always be with my team, and I want to thank the team management, especially Azam Bhai, for their incredible efforts,” he added.
It is worth noting that following a string of continuous defeats in previous seasons, Quetta Gladiators appointed Riley Russo as the new captain for PSL 9, replacing Sarfaraz Ahmed.
Sarfaraz had led Quetta Gladiators in the first eight editions of the league. However, due to the team’s consistent poor performance in recent seasons, the decision was made to remove him from the captaincy.
During the league’s initial four seasons, Gladiators performed admirably, but since then, their fortune changed. In the first two editions, the team finished as runners-up, and in 2018, after failing to reach the playoffs, they ended in fourth place.
However, under Sarfaraz’s leadership in 2019, Quetta Gladiators won their first PSL title. After the departure of players like Shane Watson and Riley Russo, the team’s performance deteriorated, and they failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last four editions.
