According to media reports, after the Indian cricket team’s worst Test match defeats against New Zealand and Australia on home grounds, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had implemented a new travel policy. This policy required players to travel without their wives or girlfriends during the Champions Trophy.
However, due to pressure from senior cricketers, the BCCI had to reverse its decision. The board has now allowed players to bring their wives, families, and girlfriends on tour, but with one condition.
As per the condition, players will only be allowed to bring their family or girlfriend for one match during the tour. The Indian cricket team has already arrived in Dubai for the Champions Trophy and participated in a practice session recently. However, all players and support staff arrived in the UAE without their families.
The Indian team will face Bangladesh in their first match on February 20 in Dubai. Later, on February 23, they will play a crucial match against traditional rivals Pakistan. The Indian team will then play their final group match against New Zealand.
Previously, under the BCCI’s new rules, players were allowed to stay with their families or girlfriends for only 7 days during tours lasting 45 days or more.
