The Washington Post, an American newspaper, has warned that temperatures in Pakistan could rise to dangerous levels this week, potentially setting a new global heat record.
According to the report, temperatures in South Asia, particularly in central and southern regions of Pakistan, may reach up to 50 degrees Celsius. If this occurs, it would be considered a new global summer record for the area.
It is worth noting that in April 2018, the temperature in Nawabshah, Sindh, had reached 50 degrees Celsius, which was declared the hottest day in Asia.
Meanwhile, Punjab is expected to face intense heat along with weather disturbances. According to a spokesperson of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), from April 30 to May 4, various districts may experience dust storms, thunder, and rainfall.
Affected districts include Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Gujranwala. Strong winds and rainfall are also forecasted in Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Faisalabad, and other cities.
The Meteorological Department has advised the public to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel.
