Sindh’s Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani has given an unusual explanation, stating that on the 14th date of the lunar month, rainwater from Karachi does not fully drain into the sea.
In a video circulating on social media, he can be heard telling reporters that usually all rainwater from Karachi flows into the sea, and the administration makes every effort to drain it quickly. However, when the lunar date reaches the 14th and the moon is full, the sea level rises, and in such a situation, the water cannot flow into the sea. According to him, this is a natural system that needs to be understood.
He further said in the video that since Karachi is situated below sea level, whenever the moon is full, the sea’s level rises higher. At that time, if rainwater is flowing from the city towards the sea, it gets blocked due to the elevated sea level, creating difficulties. He emphasized that this is a system created by God, which also depends on the timing and intensity of the rainfall.
In a separate TV interview, the Sindh Minister stated that when heavy rains occur and water accumulates, people should not expect him to act like Superman and stop the water from flowing. He added that once roads reopen and pathways clear, normal movement resumes. Saeed Ghani clarified that it is wrong to assume the entire city of Karachi sinks under rainwater, as officials are present in their respective areas and performing their duties.
