Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that China holds a central place in Pakistan’s foreign policy, adding that Pakistan appreciates China’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Islamabad alongside Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Ishaq Dar welcomed his visit and said that the discussions were highly constructive. The meeting covered a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including bilateral relations and regional matters.
He said that both sides reviewed the progress of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and reaffirmed their resolve to work together for regional peace, stability, and prosperity. Dar added that talks were also held regarding Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s upcoming visit to China, with a focus on advancing CPEC Phase II, enhancing people-to-people exchanges, and expanding bilateral cooperation.
Dar further noted that Pakistan is keen to expand trade with China, emphasizing that regional peace and stability are shared objectives.
On his part, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China regards Pakistan as a close and reliable partner and is determined to elevate bilateral ties to new heights. He stated that cooperation in counter-terrorism will be further strengthened and that CPEC Phase II was discussed in detail during the meeting.
Wang Yi stressed that the strategic partnership between the two countries continues to grow stronger. He said that both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in industry, agriculture, and mining, while also extending support to Pakistan in the rehabilitation of flood-affected communities.
