Sindh Government Monitors Flood Crisis Closely, Over 150,000 People and 410,000 Livestock Relocated
Karachi: Sindh’s Senior Minister and Provincial Information and Transport Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has said that the provincial government is keeping a close watch on the ongoing flood situation and is working round the clock under a coordinated strategy.
In a statement, he confirmed that the Sindh government and all relevant institutions are monitoring water levels at barrages and rivers to ensure timely protective measures. Relief efforts include relocating residents from affected katcha areas to safer locations, where temporary shelters, drinking water, food supplies, medicines, and other basic facilities are being provided.
Calling it a “national emergency,” the minister stressed that the government alone cannot face this challenge and that public cooperation is essential. He urged citizens to follow the guidance of administration and rescue agencies, avoid rumors, and contact nearby centers or helplines in emergencies.
He further stated that the Chief Minister of Sindh and cabinet members are personally supervising operations and visiting flood-affected areas. The focus is not only on immediate relief but also on long-term rehabilitation and preventive measures to avoid similar crises in the future.
Sharjeel Memon highlighted that while the water level at Trimmu has receded, Panjnad continues to face exceptionally high flood levels. Guddu and Sukkur barrages are experiencing medium-level floods, whereas Kotri is recording low-level flooding.
In the last 36 hours, 2,375 people have been shifted to safer locations, bringing the total number of relocated individuals to 150,002. Medical assistance has been extended to 63,748 people across 169 fixed and mobile health sites.
Regarding livestock safety, he revealed that 11,844 animals were relocated in the past 36 hours, raising the total to 410,951. So far, 1,080,694 animals have been vaccinated and treated.
