Islamabad: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has lauded Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s relentless efforts for the rehabilitation of flood victims, describing his leadership and vision as a ray of hope for millions affected across the country.
Sharjeel Memon said that Bilawal Bhutto has always considered the people’s pain as his own, and under his leadership, the PPP will not rest until every affected family has been fully rehabilitated. He added that Bilawal’s recent statement on social media regarding the plight of flood victims reflected both his compassion for the public and his farsightedness as a leader.
He emphasized that Bilawal Bhutto has consistently stood with the people in times of crisis, and even today, his top priorities remain the poor, farmers, and families devastated by natural calamities.
Welcoming the federal government’s decision to declare an environmental and agricultural emergency on Bilawal’s demand, Sharjeel Memon said it was a testament to Bilawal’s effective leadership, which has managed to draw nationwide attention to the issue of flood victims.
However, he criticized the federal authorities for not yet announcing a relief package for flood victims under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), calling the delay “regrettable.” He reminded them that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had personally assured Bilawal Bhutto of such a package, but people in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and particularly South Punjab, were still waiting for relief.
Sharjeel Memon echoed Bilawal Bhutto’s concerns that the delay in seeking international aid through the United Nations platform was “incomprehensible.” He pledged that the PPP would continue to act as the voice of the people at every forum and that resolutions would be presented in assemblies to ensure rehabilitation efforts for flood victims are made part of the national agenda.
Highlighting Bilawal Bhutto’s recent visits to Central Punjab, South Punjab, and Sindh’s flood-affected districts, Memon said the PPP chairman personally reviewed the situation on the ground. Following these visits, he held meetings with the Sindh Chief Minister and the provincial agriculture minister to chalk out practical plans for the recovery of farmers and the revival of the agriculture sector.
Sharjeel Memon concluded by stressing that agriculture had been the hardest-hit sector during the floods, and restoring farmers’ livelihoods was central to Bilawal Bhutto’s vision. He noted that the Sindh government was already taking concrete steps in this regard while also expecting full cooperation from the federal government.
