Lahore: A sessions court in Lahore has issued a written order on a petition seeking the registration of a criminal case against former president Arif Alvi, directing the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to proceed in accordance with the law.
In his written ruling, Additional Sessions Judge Shafqat Shahbaz Raja stated that if any unlawful act had been committed, the FIA must take action under the relevant legal provisions. The court also instructed the agency to complete its procedural requirements regarding the matter.
The petition was filed by citizen Shehzada Adnan through his counsel, Advocate Mudasar Chaudhry. In his plea, the petitioner alleged that the former president used derogatory and offensive language during a speech abroad. Despite approaching the FIA with a request to register a case, no action was taken, he claimed.
The petitioner further told the court that the speech in question contained blasphemous remarks, and the video of it was still available on YouTube. He added that even after applying to the police, no FIR had been registered.
