The Meteorological Department has predicted that most districts of the country will experience hot and dry weather in the coming days, though certain areas may see heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. According to the department, weather conditions are expected to vary significantly across different regions.
In the federal capital and surrounding areas, the weather will remain hot and humid, with chances of rain in select localities. Several districts in Punjab are also likely to receive heavy showers.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, dry conditions are expected overall, though rain is likely in mountainous regions such as Swat, Shangla, and Buner. Sindh will mostly experience hot and humid weather, while Sukkur, Ghotki, and Tharparkar have been marked for possible rainfall. Balochistan will witness partly cloudy and humid conditions, with Zhob, Barkhan, and Lasbela likely to receive showers. Meanwhile, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are forecast to have rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds.
On the other hand, the Meteorological Department came under sharp criticism during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Water Resources, chaired by Muhammad Atiq Anwar. Members expressed frustration over repeated inaccuracies in weather forecasts.
Committee member Mir Munawar Ali noted that most predictions by the Met Office turn out to be incorrect. He cited an example where four consecutive days of rain were forecast, but not a single drop fell.
MNA Shazia Marri also voiced strong criticism, saying that when the Met Office predicts rainfall, none occurs, and when it rules out rain, it often rains on that very day. “We leave home with umbrellas, only to face dry weather,” she remarked sarcastically.
Chairman Atiq Anwar added that the committee would soon conduct a visit to the Met Office to review its systems and technology to understand why forecasts repeatedly fail to match actual conditions.
