A tragic accident at Karachi University claimed the life of Aniqah Saeed, a second-year student of the Department of Social Work, after she was struck by a point bus on campus.
According to police, the incident occurred when the student was stepping off the bus and the driver suddenly reversed the vehicle, hitting her. She died on the spot from her injuries.
The accident triggered shock and grief across the university, followed by a large protest by students who gathered at the site and chanted slogans against the administration. The protesters stated that there is no proper traffic management system inside the university campus, with no speed breakers or warning signs installed, putting students’ lives at constant risk. They demanded a thorough investigation into the incident, the implementation of effective traffic control measures on campus, and financial assistance for the victim’s family.
Police and rescue teams reached the scene shortly after receiving the report. According to Mubeena Town Police, the point bus driver involved in the accident has been taken into custody. However, the victim’s family has refused to pursue legal action and has requested immediate release of the body. The police confirmed that negotiations with the family are ongoing and a detailed report of the incident is being prepared.
