Former Pakistan Test cricketer Wazir Mohammad passed away at the age of 95. According to family sources, he breathed his last today in Birmingham, where he had been residing for many years.
Wazir Mohammad was among the pioneers of Pakistan cricket. He made his Test debut during Pakistan’s historic tour of India in 1952, which marked the team’s first-ever appearance in international Test cricket.
Between 1952 and 1959, Wazir Mohammad represented Pakistan in 20 Test matches, scoring 801 runs, including two centuries and three half-centuries. Known for his solid technique and elegant batting style, he remained one of the dependable players of his era.
Wazir Mohammad belonged to the legendary Mohammad family. He was the elder brother of Hanif Mohammad, Raees Mohammad, Mushtaq Mohammad, and Sadiq Mohammad—all of whom represented Pakistan at the Test level. His death has been widely mourned across the cricket fraternity.
