Former Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed’s lawyer, Mian Ali Ashfaq, has strongly denied reports claiming that his client is set to become a state witness against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, terming all such claims as baseless speculation.
According to senior journalist Ansar Abbasi, Mian Ali Ashfaq said that he is fully aware, as a matter of fact, that Faiz Hameed is not becoming a state witness against former prime minister Imran Khan in any case, adding that all circulating claims in this regard are entirely unfounded.
He clarified that reports being spread in media and political circles suggesting that Faiz Hameed is considering turning state witness in cases against Imran Khan are completely false, lack any factual basis, and are nothing more than conjecture.
It is reported that this clarification came after recent statements by certain federal ministers and independent Senator Faisal Vawda, who is considered close to the establishment, in which claims were made that Faiz Hameed would testify against the former prime minister.
Meanwhile, former ISI chief Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed has filed an appeal against the sentence awarded to him by a military court. His lawyer confirmed that an appeal has been submitted challenging the military court’s verdict, although no further details were shared.
Sources said that the appeal argues the sentence was awarded in violation of the law and on incorrect grounds, that the requirement of a fair and transparent trial was ignored, and that the prosecution failed to prove the case against Faiz Hameed.
