Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has stated that even if negotiations are held with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, there will be no discussion on the release of the PTI founder.
Speaking to the media, Faisal Karim Kundi said that the Pakistan Peoples Party has not yet been taken into confidence regarding any proposed talks between the federal government and PTI, adding that had there been any serious move toward negotiations, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would have stated the matter.
He said that PTI cannot be trusted, as the party has previously sabotaged dialogue efforts, and stressed that if talks do take place, the release of the PTI founder will not be on the agenda. He added that the PTI founder will have to serve his sentence and will not be given any form of NRO.
The governor said that PTI has devastated an entire province for the sake of one individual and should focus on governance instead of personality-based politics. He recalled that during the PPP-led government’s 16-month tenure, PTI and coalition partners were brought to the negotiating table, but the party later became associated with the events of May 9.
Faisal Karim Kundi said that his party believes political problems should be resolved by politicians through dialogue, but pointed out that PTI leadership sends mixed signals by talking about negotiations on one hand while the PTI founder issues provocative tweets related to marching on Islamabad on the other.
He also questioned who actually holds decision-making authority within PTI, stating that there is a clear lack of trust among party members and that PTI has now started relying on imported leadership.
He added that PTI proposed Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas for the position of opposition leader, but questioned how long such leaders remain relevant in the party, noting that PTI tends to sideline individuals once it no longer needs them.
