The Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad has announced its verdict in a major digital terrorism case, sentencing Adil Raja, Haider Mehdi, Sabir Shakir, Moeed Pirzada, Shaheen Subhai, and Wajahat Saeed to two life imprisonments each.
Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Tahir Abbas Supra delivered the verdict on May 9 in the digital terrorism case related to actions against state institutions. Adil Raja, Haider Mehdi, Sabir Shakir, Moeed Pirzada, and Wajahat Saeed were awarded two life sentences each, while additional punishments amounting to a total of 35 years of imprisonment were also imposed under other charges.
The court further imposed a collective fine of 1.5 million rupees on the convicted individuals, making it a part of the overall sentence as per the law.
The verdict was reserved after the completion of the trial, during which the prosecution presented a total of 24 witnesses before the court, whose testimonies were formally recorded.
On the prosecution’s request, the court concluded the trial in the absence of the accused, as anti-terrorism laws allow legal proceedings and verdicts to be carried out even if the accused are not present.
In the case registered at Abpara Police Station, Sabir Shakir, Moeed Pirzada, and Syed Akbar Hussain were awarded life imprisonment, while in the case registered at Ramna Police Station, Shaheen Subhai, Haider Mehdi, and Wajahat Saeed were convicted and sentenced accordingly.
