The ongoing protests against inflation in Iran have further intensified, as two security personnel were killed and thirty others were injured due to gunfire during the latest unrest, escalating tensions in several areas.
According to Iranian news agency Fars News, the protests turned violent in the city of Lordegan after shopkeepers closed their businesses and took to the streets in large numbers, chanting slogans against the government.
The report said that protesters pelted police with stones, while some opened fire on security personnel, resulting in the deaths of two officers and injuries to thirty others, who were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Iranian media reported that protesters in Lordegan also damaged the governor’s office and other government buildings, prompting authorities to take additional security measures.
Meanwhile, in the border province of North Khorasan, a shop was set on fire in the city of Bojnord. However, security forces acted swiftly and moved a nearby civilian vehicle to a safe location, preventing it from catching fire.
Authorities said that additional security personnel have been deployed in the affected areas to bring the situation under control, while further steps are being considered to restore order.
It is worth noting that protests against rising inflation in Iran have been ongoing for the past eleven days, during which the death toll from clashes has risen to thirty-five.
According to US media, demonstrations were also held in Tehran, Shiraz, and western regions, during which approximately 1,200 people were arrested.
Iranian media reported that around 250 police personnel and 45 members of the Basij force were injured in the protests, while Iran’s foreign ministry has accused the United States and Israel of interfering in Iran’s internal affairs and encouraging violence.
